Course and Eligibility
Applicant who has completed at least 12 years of formal school education in overseas or who have been certified by the president of B.I.L.as possessing equivalent or higher academic ability, and meet the following conditions of each course. Also, for those applicants from countries who do not have a language support staff in school must be able to communicate in English.
①1-year Academic Course Late Advanced Level (B2-C1)
Applicants must demonstrate Japanese language proficiency equivalent to the 2nd Half of B1 in the “Framework of Reference for Japanese Language Education,” such as JLPT N2 level, or have completed at least 600 hours of Japanese language study at a school or language education institution by the application deadline.
②1-year Academic Course Early Advanced Level (B1-B2)
Applicants must demonstrate Japanese proficiency equivalent to the 2nd Half of A2 in the “Framework of Reference for Japanese Language Education,” such as JLPT N3, or have completed at least 350 hours of Japanese language study at a school or language institution by the application deadline.
③1-year Academic Course Late Intermediate Level (A2-B2)
Applicants must demonstrate Japanese proficiency equivalent to the 1st Half of A2 in the “Framework of Reference for Japanese Language Education,” such as JLPT N4, or have completed at least 300 hours of Japanese language study at a school or language institution by the application deadline.
④1- year Academic Course Mid-Intermediate Level (A1-B2)
Applicants must demonstrate Japanese proficiency equivalent to A1 in the “Framework of Reference for Japanese Language Education,” such as JLPT N5, or have completed at least 250 hours of Japanese language study at a school or language institution by the application deadline.

Applicants must demonstrate Japanese language proficiency equivalent to the 2nd Half of B1 in the “Framework of Reference for Japanese Language Education,” such as JLPT N2 level, or have completed at least 600 hours of Japanese language study at a school or language education institution by the application deadline.

④1- year Academic Course Mid-Intermediate Level (A1-B2)
Applicants must demonstrate Japanese proficiency equivalent to A1 in the “Framework of Reference for Japanese Language Education,” such as JLPT N5, or have completed at least 250 hours of Japanese language study at a school or language institution by the application deadline.
Application Period
October 1 to December 25, if currently without resident or student visa to Japan. October 1 to the end of February next year if holding resident visa for Japan.
※ However, application period will close as soon as course is full.Office hour is basically Monday thru Friday from 9AM to 5PM. But please call before visiting B.I.L.
※ Please note that submission and screening of application materials must be completed by the end of the application period.

①1.5-year Academic Course Early Advanced Level (A1-B2)
Applicants must demonstrate Japanese proficiency equivalent to A1 in the “Framework of Reference for Japanese Language Education,” such as JLPT N5, or have completed at least 200 hours of Japanese language study at a school or language institution by the application deadline.
②1.5-year Academic Course Late Intermediate Level (A1 basic-B2)
Applicants must demonstrate Japanese proficiency equivalent to A1 in the “Framework of Reference for Japanese Language Education,” such as JLPT N5, or have completed at least 150 hours of Japanese language study at a school or language institution by the application deadline. Those who are determined to start over from the basics will lead to better retention of Japanese, such as those unfamiliar with Japanese communication or those with an imbalance in language activities.
